If you’ve listened to the doom and gloom on the news recently, you know that unemployment is a hot topic issue. We did a little research on the actual numbers and came up with some interesting results. We’ve also designed this handy little infographic to help us understand all those numbers. We’re not big numbers fans, unless we’re discussing salary negotiations.
39% of Americans Have an Associate’s Degree or Higher
Less than half of American’s have a post high school education. This number isn’t surprising, but what does it prove? Nothing really, there are thousands of examples of Americans who have made great careers and even started million dollar businesses without ever setting foot on a college campus.
Even though there are so many success stories, the numbers do show that only 4.4% of Bachelor’s degree holders are unemployed. Unemployment for Americans with less than a high school diploma is a whopping 13.1%.
Why do College Graduates Have a Lower Unemployment Rate?
Could it be a lack of motivation? Although many college graduates are happy to coast by in their careers, they have proven at least a hint determination by obtaining a degree in the first place. Anyone that focuses on a certain skill, improves that skill, continues learning, and has a good work ethic will always have a place in the workforce.
Maybe it is a lack of motivation or a lack of drive. Maybe they have not focused on honing their skills. Maybe they haven’t showed employers why they are employable.
